RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

Under development at Guided Particle are low cost devices and methods to deliver thin film materials onto substrates using atmospheric pressure generated ions, ion clusters, or charged particles (droplets and/or solid particles) as the material form.  The manufacturing technique relies on the use of ion/charged particle generators in combination with shaped, patterned, conformal ion lenses and individually addressable elements of an ion optical lens array. Using this technique, a high throughput, maskless deposition system for controlled printing of thin films such as, OLED’s, flexible polymers, OFET’s, organic/inorganic semiconductors and cellular layers is possible. Transport of material to and away from the surface can be precisely controlled spatially, temporally, and compositionally to create two and three dimensional films.  The first embodiment of the molecular/particle printer will be toward a desktop system capable of producing discrete printed substrates at atmosphere. The printer can also be configured to accommodate roll to roll processes and is scalable to large area printing.
